Jairo Ojeda

Información

Jairo Ojeda is Colombian, but his music can be heard throughout Latin America. For thirty years, his songs have enriched the children's repertoire. "Chontaduro maduro sells," "El negrito Arturo," "La sombra," "El centipede que no sabe contar," "A un grano de maíz," and many other melodic compositions collected on two albums entitled Todos Podemos Cantar (All We Can Sing) have become essential references in homes and kindergartens throughout Colombia, and two generations have now grown up to his rhythm.

Jairo Ojeda hasn't just composed for children. His music goes much further.

Win prizes across the country:

  • Víctor Jara Festival (Bogotá - 1982), Clavel Rojo Festival (Sochi/USSR 1983), Colombian Song Festival (Villavicencio - 1985 and 2001), Mono Nuñez National Festival (Ginebra Valle - 1995 and 2000), and the Bambuco National Festival (Pereira), are just some of the successes he has achieved.

This multifaceted creator has composed songs for the Cancionero Ecológico (Ecological Songbook) and songs about indigenous, Black, and mestizo cultures from the department of Cauca. His songs have been arranged, recorded, and released by Colombian groups such as Cantaclaro, Las Cantaoras del Pacífico, Cantoalegre, Nueva Cultura, and Preludio, as well as by international groups such as Los Hermanos Rincón in Mexico and Piojos y Piojitos in Argentina.

His musical work, produced by various institutions such as the Family Welfare Institute, CINDE, and the Colombo-RDA Alliance, has been widely disseminated through national programs.

Random House Mondadori published his book "A la una la laguna," beautifully illustrated by Cinthia Bustillos. This collection of poems, reminiscent of a songbook, has been set to music by Bustillos himself. Thus, his repertoire for early childhood expands daily. He has received both national and international accolades for his contributions to Latin American children's music.

Jairo Ojeda is the designer and manufacturer of the artisanal printing presses used in the program La Imprenta Manual .
